I started writing a little over 10 years ago. I still remember that first time I woke up in the middle of the night, just having that urge to put pen to paper; just having to get the words out of my head. It started then with poetry, but as my love of reading blossomed so did my love for stories and fiction, and soon after that I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted to see my work on the shelves next to all my favorite authors. And it’s to this goal, that I still write everyday.
Twavols are novels/stories that are posted on twitter, (Thanks @teganann for the name!), and I found this idea really neat. By being limited to the 140 characters, I’m challenged to make every post a complete thought that stands alone but also works together with the other posts in the story. Trust me, it doesn’t always work but I do try. It’s a fun exercise that gets your mind thinking. Here’s the compiled posts from my first attempt, ‘Rainy Night‘.
Originally entitled ‘The Gift of Kin‘, this story is one of my favorites to work on. Started way back when I was still in middle school, it’s received a lot of attention and revising from me.
The Gifted is about Jasmine and her twin brother Jaden, who have recently been summoned home from their exclusive boarding school in New York to help deal with their father’s disappearance. But when Jasmine finds out that her own ‘Family’- a secret organization of related Gifted people- isn’t going to help save her father from the people who took him, she takes matters into her own hands. With the help of her brother, and another Gifted, Adam, she sets off to discover that there is much more to this world than she could have ever imagined.
{Grim Aspects} Coming Soon
I started this one last year for NaNoWriMo ‘08, and well, let’s just say I didn’t make it to 50k. Or, anywhere close to it for that matter. But what I did write that month, I’ve continued. It’s come along fairly well considering that most of what posted is a first draft of the work. It still needs quite a bit of love, but I hope you enjoy it all the same.
Tired of her living a life set down by her family, Gabrielle takes off one winter’s night and is saved by a stranger named Adrian. Fascinated by his speech and his difference, she accepts his invitation back to his hotel and finds out that there’s more to him that his good looks; like a whole other world, a murderer on the lose, and a missing son who’s been named a traitor. Gabrielle struggles to find her way in a world where the odds are stacked against her and one misstep could cost her her life.
